Iowa is the "food capital of the world" and there are apparently eight pigs to a person here. Don't let that fool you into thinking that it is backward, Iowa is also the state that makes or breaks presidents. Since the early 1970s, the Iowa Caucus has opened the national election battle.
After the 1832 Black Hawk War pushed local Native Americans westward, immigrants flooded into Iowa. Some experimental communities were established such as the Amana Colonies. 95% of the land is fertile and naturally farming communities cropped up everywhere. In 2009, the state shirked its staid image by allowing same-sex marriages.
